SOFID supports Construções JJR in Mozambique

Construções JJR & Filhos Mozambique, Lda, is a company under Mozambican law established in 2010, whose activity focus mainly on construction and public construction works, land planning, drainage, paving and other construction related works.

This company, from the Leiria based JJR Group, results from an internationalization process that started from an entrepreneurial perspective, strategically directing its activity towards small-medium scale construction works in the Mozambican market, associated road with maintenance, preservation and improvement and other complementary activities.

The project presented to SOFID, amounting up to USD 6 million, consists on the acquisition of industrial, transportation and other light equipment needed for a local supporting site and to develop the company’s activity. SOFID’s participation led to a loan up to EUR 1 million (accounting for 25% of the total investment) to the Group’s holding company, in Portugal, intended to transfer the funds to its Mozambican subsidiary.

The project predicts the creation of 107 direct jobs, resorting to only 8 expatriates and is expected to implement, in its Mozambican unit, the same standards that regulate the Group’s activity in Portugal, in terms of social and environmental responsibility. The project also foresees the knowhow and technical competences transfer, through specific staff training.
