Upgrading the processed fruit sector in South Africa

Frulact South AfricaFrulact South Africa is a company under South African law, owned by the Portuguese group Frulact and a local partner, whose main activity is the production and commercialization of processed fruit.


After the consolidation effort of the investment portfolio in other regions around the world, the constitution of South Africa Frulact corresponds to the Group’s internationalization achievement in the Southern African region.

The investment project presented to SOFID, amounting up to EUR 8.19 million, consisted of the setup of a modern unit of processed fruit, through the renovation of most of the local partner’s industrial facilities and the acquisition of last generation industrial equipments. Thus, it became possible to raise the current market standards, technology and food safety standards.

The project will also have positive impacts on the country’s trade balance and on know-how transfer through the Frulact Group’s bet on staff’s specialized training in loco and in their Portugal based training centers.

SOFID supported this project through a loan of up to EUR 2 million to the Portuguese company, intended to be transferred to its South African subsidiary.
